We are stretched thin today.
We got a call from Okhla Phase 2, where a laptop randomly does not detect the hard drive and sometimes the network card. We have two pending biometric attendance machine installations.
One at Faridabad for ESSL AI Face Mars Lite installation and configuration. We also have an ongoing project in Saket, where we are installing multiple ESSL biometric devices and EM locks. In Dwarka Mor we are hoping for approval of the Realtime RS9W device installation and configuration. Back at the office, there are a couple of laptops waiting for service.
Waiting for Approval: Realtime RS9W Attendance System
In case of ‘Realtime RS9W’ device installation, the customer does not need the magnetic door locks, just the attendance system. He has been referred by a regular customer of ours. In this case, we are hardly keeping any margin on the device cost, but I hope there is no negotiation on service charges.
At the office: Two Laptop Repair Jobs
Two ongoing issues are being taken care of by our team members at the Nehru Place Office — one, a Mac which came to us with a random shutdown issue but has since been manifesting new issues; and second, an HP laptop which was unable to boot and also has damaged hinges.
HP 240 G6 Nightmare: Hinge Damage and Repair Challenges
The HP laptop is especially problematic. It is an HP 240 G6. The 240 is notorious for hinge damage, and when its hinges are damaged, we often have to replace the entire palmrest, because customers often report it late and by then the screw mounts are damaged. The palmrest also has a soldered keyboard and comes bundled with the touchpad assembly. And to add to it all, when you replace everything, the touchpad logic card refuses to work with the old board. This sometimes gets resolved by updating drivers and sometimes by swapping the logic card, but very often it remains a pain point.
Hoping for new challenges
Hopefully, the issues with both laptops get resolved tomorrow, and we can focus on field work and IT infrastructure work — biometrics installations, access control setups, and getting clients up and running. Days like these are a good reminder of just how varied this work really is.
